Places For Worship
posted by admin in Special Needs ResourcesApril is a big month for religious worship. This week many of us who are Christians will prepare for the most important occasion of our religious lives, Easter. Some of us are looking forward to these festivities which may involve decorating eggs, assembling Easter baskets with chocolate bunnies, creme-filled chicks and trinkets, fancy new dresses and suits and large meals with family.
Others of us who are Jewish will observe Pesach (Passover). We will clean our homes and do our Passover shopping. We will dine with family and friends and, tell the Passover story to our kids.
No matter the religious holiday you observe, I feel that we all need a place where we can worship. Some groups are providing sensory rooms and religious training specifically designed to support children with special needs and their families. What is your place for worship doing to reach out to families with kids who have special needs? Do you think that our places for worship should offer specially designed religious services for kids with special needs or should we work to find an inclusive way to worship with our kids with special needs? In this blog entitled, Special Needs Ministry For Autistic Children, opinions around these ideas I pose here are shared.
Let me know what you think and share your comments by clicking on the comments button. Also, if your place for worship welcomes kids with special needs, please add the name, location and details to our newest category on Special Needs Neighborhood.com entitled, Places for Worship. So many families will benefit from knowing where to find places for worship.
