Question: My name is Jordan Peterson, I am a high school Junior (rising Senior) who has been working with children (pre-k to post high) with autism and other intellectual disabilities for five years. I will be applying to college for Special Education in the fall and have found that this is my true passion. Since I moved to Austin about a year ago I haven't been able to find and opportunities to work with this population via employment (which obviously would be ideal) or volunteering. I've worked both in and out of the classroom setting and am looking to babysit, work with, play with, tutor kids of any age with any severitiy this summer. I have ample experience, have worked with children with multiple disabilities (mentally handicap & blind etc..), am learning Sign Language, have dealt with communication techniques such as PECS and others and am familar with other systems used in teaching children. Please, please contact me if you know anyone in need of tese services, I'm available all summer and dedicated. I really would like to spend my time contributing to an individuals life, like I know they contribute to mine. Thank You! Jordan Peterson fliesbackwards@gmail.com

Jordan, there's a couple of places you can be volunteering. Try Special Olympics and Exceptional Georgetown, as well as the Ronald McDonald house. Also, the Children's Hospital has a good volunteer program too. When you turn 18, you can apply to be an attendant for any of the families who receive CLASS services. Send me your contact info and I can help you with referrals and agencies to contact once you are 18. Bonne Sandars bonneproofs@sbcglobal.net

You might want to try McBeth Recreation Center. They might take volunteers if it is too late to formally apply for a job. Their number is 974-9011. Also, you can find them under Recreation resources in the listings on the homepage of this website. Also, have you contacted the The ARC of the Capitol Area. They are listed on the homepage under Advocacy.

There is a website for people who are looking for caregiving jobs and those who need them ... www.attendantnetwork.org It isn't specifically for caregiving for kids, but it is a way to just put yourself out there.
