Question: I have a daughter with Down Syndrome who is 4 years old. Traditional daycare in no way shape or form can "meet the needs" of my daughter. I am not certain if typically developing children are having their needs met either. The child to adult ratios are unacceptable. I can't fathom having more than 6 toddlers at once and being able to get them fed, changed, entertained, educated, spend the time "emotion coaching" potty training, Maybe pre-K kiddos, but I have substituted in classrooms ranging from 12 to 25 pre-K children and felt like I could have done SO much more if the ratio was 8 at this age level etc. Anyway, I am willing to babysit this summer if I am unable to find a babysitter so I can go off to work. As I mentioned I have a 4 yr old non-verbal daughter. I try and do as much speech therapy exercises throughout the day as possible. My home is baby proof since Mary eats paper cardboard and crayons. She can use markers and we have magna doodle. I have a small apartment jammed full of toys and educational materials. Laminated flashcards are Mary's favorite. I am big on literacy and have faith that even though my daughter cannot spit out much information she is taking much of it in and will learn to read if given the right tools to do so. If I were in a better financial situation and had a House I would open "Mary's" house. A TRUE non-profit cooperative parent driven faciity with the ability to handle the most difficult behaviors. I am going to make this one
