Question: I have a 4 yr old boy with sensory disorder and development delays. He's getting help, but I need some! Are there parents with special needs kids out there talking? Please direct me to some support meetings for parents. I live in Cedar Creek and not far from south or central Austin. Thank you.

My 9 yr old daughter has a sensory processing disorder and developmental delays also. I haven't found any support groups in Austin for this. But, I would be happy to compare notes with you about it. I can tell you what strategies have worked for us, etc... My e-mail is: kaylee21@gmail.com

Issues related to sensory disorders and developmental delays are addressed in the Greater Austin Autism Society meetings. They meet the last Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. See their listings under Support Groups on this website.

AISD has a support group one Tuesday evening each month for parents of children with special needs. I have gathered a wealth of information for my child and for my own emotional well-being at these meetings. Find more on their website at AustinISD.org or call Rosemary Alexander 414-2049. You are right to recognize that you need to take care of yourself, too! Good luck!
