Question: I have a 5 year old daughter with ADHD and I need to find a private (or public?) school which is equipped to deal with her social and emotional issues. She has difficulty controlling her anger, dealing with conflicts and tends to be very negative/anxious. She also needs a super-consistent environment and special help to manage changes/transitions. She is exceptionally bright and personally engaging (to a fault) and just needs a smaller teacher to student ratio and folks who are trained to manage her behavior consistently. We would prefer a Christian school, but are open to all suggestions/ideas at this point. Thanks!

Hi Mom, My daughter has been diagnosed with ADHD and she really struggles to manage her behavior choices at school and at home. Recently, a friend recommended that I contact Linda Classen, LPC. She is well known for her work with kids with ADHD. Her email address is lindaclass@aol.com. Her phone number is 512-346-3123. When my daughter was 5, she attended the Moore-Weis Children's Center of Austin. This school staffs behavior specialists who work daily with the kids. Also, the class sizes are small and daily consistency is one of the school's programmatic strengths. The school contact information is listed on this web site under schools. Finding a good school fit is hard. Make lots of visits to potential programs. I wish you the best!

I have a 9 year old boy with ADHD and he has ALL those same exact issues. He attends the Round Rock Public School System and is enrolled in the "Achieve" program. He has therapy and guidance on social skills and controlling his anger. Your school district should be able to evaluate your daughter and provide her with the same care or bus her to a district that can provide her with the care she needs.
