Question: I am seeking someone in Austin to help me toilet train my 8-yr old with Down Syndrome. He has the peeing part down somewhat but he will not have a BM in the potty. We've tried all approaches and nothing has worked so far. Its a control thing at this point. He does pretty well at school with prompts but has BM's in the afternoon while at home NOT at school- so its not on their radar. We have in home training help approved but they have not been able to find us a qualified person. I cannot get any BCBS to call me back...Any ideas? or names? Thanks

I have a problem with my 9 year old son in this department. What I've done and what has worked (though not all the time) is a Rewards Menu. I literally printed up a "menu" of rewards and stuck it on the refrigerator. It could be anything they like from staying up 30 minutes past bedtime to baking cookies with mom, to time on a playstation... anything. Every time he goes to the bathroom in the toilet, he gets to pick a reward from the menu. The menu must be visible and it helps if the reward is immediate or at least that day.. i.e. they shouldn't get the reward days later.. hope that helps. :)
