Question: My name is Emily and I have a four year old son who was thought to be Autistic and accepted into the Round Rock school districts special needs program. Since being in the program the instructors no longer believe him to be Autistic but there is what they have labeled signs of a pervasive learning disorder. He is only at the Round Rock program for a few hours a day and the rest of the time he is at a traditional day care. However, they daycare setting is no longer working for my son. The teachers don't have the manpower or the knowledge of how to teach him and our fear is that everything he is learning during the day at the Round Rock program is being wasted when he gets to his day care. So I am now researching a day care that would be a better fit with a child with learning disabilities. My son has some traits very similar to high functioning Autism, he doesn't do well with transition times, he can become over stimulated very easily, he doesn't relate to children very easily, and he can be engrossed in a project or a task for hours. The biggest problem for the school is that my son knows how to potty and can go by himself, but he won't. We have to make sure he is going in the potty and we have to stay on him about it all day. The daycares are not equipped with the personal to dedicate enough time. I feel like I have hit a wall with his school and was shocked to find that the school was also not equipped with the resources that they could give a parent in my position

Emily, My son is 8 years old and diagnosed PDD-NOS and is very high functioning. He has some medical issues as well, and went to Round Rock for PPCD, Kinder, and 1st. I found that Round Rock just wasn't equipped for students with disabilities (or even varying abilities). We moved our kids to a different school district. There is a new autism center in Round Rock -- your insurance might even cover some of it. Let me know if you want more information. I believe they have a preschool program as well as one on one ABA/VB therapy. Send me your email address if you want to talk more. Take care.

Emily, my son is 5 and attends Emerson Academy in Round Rock. He has sensory processing disorder and they have a lot of experience with kids like him. I highly recommend it. Please, send me your email if you'd like to chat some more.
