Question: We are looking for a special needs playground in the Austin area...those that are equipped and safe for children with autism, specifically. Are there any in the area?

The Rosedale School has a special needs playground. Saw this Article: Saw this article and it mentions that Rosedale Playground is open to the public after school hours. Children with and without mobility limitations play side by side with equal access. A multi-level path around the structure ends in a smooth transition area to the highest level of the structure that includes the slides and other features. Adapted swings are available and a large basketball court and combined track with shade pavilion and a surface appropriate for wheels of all kinds round out this park. Know of any other Austin parks with truly accessible structures? Check back for updates as truly accessible parks are found and listed here. The Rosedale School playground is located at 2117 West 49th Street, 78756. It is open to the public when school is not in session, including late afternoon and weekends.

Not aware of a playground, but have you heard of the Miracle League? It's a special needs baseball program. It's amazing. This is my son's 3rd year. Children with all types of abilities particpate. The link is: http://miracle.tandcsports.org/ if you are interested. It may be too late to register for the spring, but they'll have it again in the fall, and you can come watch games. In Northwest Austin, off of Anderson Mill Road. Super nice / safe / rubberized field. It's awesome. Take care.
