Question: My husband and I are looking at ICF-MR residential homes for our adult MR son. We just toured an Edu-care facility. Someone wrote about their son being at a Kenmar group home and I was wanting to know if anyone had any experience with edu-care. We would also like to know about other MHMR contracted ICF facilities if anyone had knowledge of them. We are not at the top of the HCS/Class list yet, so the ICF is, at this time, our only option. Anything I can learn about them will be helpful. Thank you.

You might want to check out the Down Home Ranch. (Downhomeranch.org) It is about 45 min from Austin out 290 East. Each resident has his own room and there are only 4 residents to a house with 5 houses on 300 acres. My son has several friends there and they are quite happy. Thank you for your answer. We have visited Down Home Ranch and also have sent our two adult children to their respite weekend camps. We have also put our sons name on the ICF wait list they have there. We would love to have our son be able to go there as they are listed with Medicaid as a provider but they also have a full wait list and we don't expect them to have an opening any time soon. They are an excellent facility and their camps are wonderful! We are going ahead with placing our son in a Kenmar ICF group home as an opening has come up with them that is close to us and they have the same philosophy as Down Home Ranch. Thank you again, Kez
