Hire a longhorn is a job bank for students at the University of Texas to find jobs and post resumes. We searched for education students and found a college jr. who worked as our respite helper for a year. She was responsible and reliable, came with references - we paid her through MDCP.

I found my respite person through the hire a longhorn. She recently graduated and has left us. We were so connected that several months before she left us; when we through counseling to help the child with the separtion. Their was so many tears of joy and sorrow. We continue to stay in touch. She was such a gift not only to the child she mentored but to me the mom. She made me laugh all the time; we shared the child bad days together; we worked together, we fell in love with each other. I wonder how will I ever find such a worker again? I believe I will find another mentor for my child; prayerfully she/he is just waiting for us to come into their lives through the hire a longhorn program. I am so grateful to the community and to each dedicated member for being the god-send I needed at the time I needed it the most. It is an experience I will never ever forget.
