HALO is the foundation and clinic for the Rapid Prompting Method.  This is a very good resource for nonverbal kids on the autism spectrum who haven’t found a good communication system.  Soma Mukhopadhyay is not really a speech pathologist, but she has developed some very effective techniques for improving communication.  My son went to her for several sessions.  Here are his comments:  “Soma understands children who can’t talk. she is very good at teaching.” We have been able to use some of Soma’s strategies at home very easily because they are low-tech and practical.

If your child has autism and is non-verbal, seeing Soma Mukhopadhyay is an absolute must. She changed our lives around and has helped us more than any other therapy or learning method in understanding our son and what he is capable of doing. Soma is an amazing teacher and teaches all types of academics to non-verbal kids - at their age level. The most important thing Soma did for my son was to give him confidence that although he doesn't talk, he is still smart and can learn. We've been seeing Soma for 3 and a half years and I can't say enough good things about the experience.
