There is something truly awesome going on in northwest Austin. The Miracle League at Town and Country is a baseball league for diabled children. It is such a simple thing - playing baseball - and one that the able-bodied often take for granted. When you see the smiles on the faces of the children that we serve, you know just how special the experience is for them.
My family has been volunteering for the Austin Miracle League since it’s
inception 4 years ago. Our field is located in northwest Austin, and was specially designed using a synthetic material that easily accomodates wheelchairs and walkers. We are always looking to expand our reach by adding more players. It’s a wonderful organization and is open to all children regardless of disability, age, or financial circumstance. We currently have 8 teams of 10-12 players each, which allows for 4 games each Saturday during the fall and spring 7-week seasons. Here are directions to the field:

The Austin Miracle League engages local able-bodied students to serve as volunteer “buddies” to assist the players during the games so that parents and friends can sit in the stands and cheer - and, as you can imagine, for some families this is the first opportunity they have ever had to do this. It is just a heartwarming organization to be involved in, and it such a great community effort. As an all-volunteer organization, it is truly a labor of love and outreach.
I wanted to make sure you know about us, and at the same time I’d like to
extend a warm invitation to come check us out. We are hosting an open house on Sunday, September 14th from 1-3pm. Players, Buddies, families, friends and community members are all encouraged to attend!
We will be serving hot dogs, popcorn and drinks. New and Returning players will be able to run around and check out the field. There will also be some fun games. Additionally, board members and coaches will be on hand to answer any questions you may have!
